Renaissance Journey Tour
The Renaissance was a time of rebirth in the arts and in learning. During this time, scholars and artists became fascinated by ancient Greek and Roman culture. Scholars poured over the ancient writings of Aristotle and Cicero, while painters traveled to Rome to study the great sculptures of ancient times. The Renaissance also gave birth to what became known as the “Renaissance Man”—men like Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Machiavelli who excelled in all of the arts and in learning. Journey through this time period as you tour the Gallery’s Renaissance masterworks and discover fascinating details about this unique era.
This tour is available for Jr. High to adult audiences.
Splendors
of the Baroque Tour
The French word baroque, which originally meant “an imperfect pearl,”
became the standard description of any art that failed to conform to accepted
standards of proportion. Baroque art, with its dramatic gestures and its emotional
scenes, had little in common with the orderly beauty of Renaissance painting.
In fact, artists from the Baroque era experimented with all sorts of dramatic
subjects—mythology, history, religion, still life, landscape, and portraiture—and
they filled their canvases with contrasts between tumultuous battle scenes
and quiet landscapes. Capture the spirit of the age as you tour the magnificent
Baroque paintings in the M&G collection.
This tour is available for Jr. High to adult audiences.
