In Renaissance Italy, patrons
of the arts were either rich or powerful or both. If you were a patron then,
your face could appear in the painting you helped to underwrite for the church,
or your patronage might allow artists to paint portraits and works for your
personal enjoyment. Most people were poor, which made the wealthy art patrons
an elite class.
Consider the choices before you. Not
only are you receiving some enjoyable benefits, but your support is making
it possible for the BJU M&G to be a more valuable resource to the community
by providing educational opportunities for teachers, students, and children
and the necessary funding to preserve and improve its collection.
Now, wouldn’t the Medici
be jealous if they knew how easy it is to become a patron of the arts
today?
