A Fictional Masquerade (ages 12-14)

For 7th through 8th grade

Masques (“parties” where masked players intermingle and entertain guests) date back to antiquity. But the idea of creating a “symbolic face” to highlight or to hide one’s true identity is still a popular theatrical device.  Along with creating a period character mask, students will learn how the elements of art (color, light, line, shape, texture, and movement) can reveal character and alter mood. In addition, they will explore creative similarities between painting and stage composition. The week’s culmination of creative collaboration will end with an evening masque in which the students will showcase their creativity.

Dates: June 11-15

Time: 9:30 AM – 3 PM daily

Location: Bob Jones Academy Auditorium

Cost: $175 for non-members, $168 for museum members
